Schaeffler is presenting the new RT1, RT2, and PSC-series precision gear units at the AMB 2022. They are used e.g. in swiveling milling heads and in small milling machine tables for machining non-ferrous metals, plastics, and wood. The RT1 and RT2 series are clearance-free precision strain wave gears, while the PSC series comprises precision planetary gear units.

The RT strain wave gears cover a torque range from 10 up to a maximum of 484 Nm. The torque range of the PSC gear units start at 327 Nm in the smallest size 030. Machine manufacturers therefore have the option of selecting the type and size of gear unit, which is ideally suited for their axis.

The RT strain wave gears can be supplemented with specifically matched motors and optional integrated torque sensor technology to form compact drive units. A particularly rigid output side bearing support can be realized by using XZU-series angular contact needle roller bearings. RT precision strain wave gears are particularly suitable for A axes in milling heads and small swivel axes.

An outstanding feature of PSC precision planetary gear units is the patented gearing technology, which reduces the torsional backlash to 0.1 angular minutes and keeps it constant throughout the operating life of 20,000 operating hours by means of an adjustment mechanism. With their high torsional rigidity and hollow shaft, PSC precision planetary gear units are ideally suited for use in C axes.

With the very wide torque range of the three gear unit series and matching rolling bearings, motors, and torque sensors, Schaeffler offers a particularly broad spectrum of components for high precision drives and positioning systems – from delicate machines for dental technology to large portal milling machines.
