Serial communication between SIMATIC S5 and SIMATIC S7-1500

In automation technology, old plants are increasingly being retrofitted completely or step by step from SIMATIC S5 to SIMATIC S7-1500. This application example describes how to couple a SIMATIC S5 to a SIMATIC S7-1500 via serial communication.

A SIMATIC S5 station communicates via a serial interface with another station.

The example projects/scenarios in this document show the options available to establish a serial communication between the existing SIMATIC S5 controllers and the SIMATIC S7-1500.
