The runtime system has been extended and now includes special safety concepts. It is responsible for executing the Safety function and consists of certified and non-certified parts. Qualified mechanisms for memory protection in CODESYS Safety SIL2 prevent internal backlashes on Safety functions. The runtime system can be ported to different hardware platforms. The system is typically employed on a single-channel architecture and complies to the EN13849 PLd Cat2/3.
As the standard development system CODESYS is qualified for SIL2 applications, both safety-related and non-safety-related applications can be developed with one and the same tool.
