The term hot swapping is used to replace modules while the system is running.

In the event of a module failure, you can replace the electronic modules while the system is running. The Siemens PLC S7-1500 continues to operate and the automated machine or system is therefore still available. It is therefore not necessary to switch the machine or system off and on again.

The wiring remains while replacing electronic modules. A distinction is made here between multiple hot swap and single hot swap.

  • Multiple hot swap: Remove and connect multiple modules during operation.
  • Single hot swap: Only one module can be removed and replaced during operation.

The following table provides an overview of the products that support hot swap.
