Canada is a partner country of Hannover Messe 2025, highlighting the strong economic and political ties between the “True North” and Germany. Canada announced its commitment as a partner country in August 2022, when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hosted German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Canada. Canada will take center stage at Hannover Messe from March 31 to April 4, 2025, showcasing how global partnerships are leading the world towards a smarter and greener future.
Canada is a member of the World Trade Organization and is the only country with trade agreements with all G7 countries. Canada has trade agreements with a total of 51 countries, the most important of which are CETA (European Union), CPTPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) and USMCA/CUSMA (United States/Mexico). Manufacturing and energy supply contribute approximately 10.5% of Canada’s gross domestic product. The strongest industries are automotive, food and engineering, and the largest manufacturing provinces are Ontario, Quebec and Alberta.
“Canada is honored to be a partner country for Hannover Messe 2025. This is an opportunity for Canadian companies to take center stage and demonstrate innovations and solutions that accelerate industrial transformation. We are pleased to continue our international collaboration and to showcase more than 200 Canadian companies representing a green, digital and resilient future,” said François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry of Canada. Canada and Germany have built a strong partnership over the years, focusing on areas such as trade and investment, energy and climate, critical minerals and key technologies. For example, the Canada-Germany Hydrogen Alliance supports the growth of supply chains essential for global decarbonization, and the rapid development of Canada’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facilities improves Germany’s energy security.
Canada’s Hannover Messe motto, “The Future is Here,” reflects the country’s focus on creating sustainable and environmentally friendly industries. Canada’s main pavilion in Hall 2 will focus on Canada’s national science and innovation ecosystem. Other pavilions will focus on topics such as artificial intelligence, automation, clean technology, hydrogen, e-mobility and robotics. Supporting events include the Canada Conference Stage in Hall 2, the Canada-Germany Business Summit, Leaders’ Dialogue, the EUREKA Global Innovation Summit (GIS), Renewable Dialogue, and networking events focused on innovation and business opportunities in Canada.
“Canada is an ideal partner country for HANNOVER MESSE, bringing strengths in sustainable industrial innovation, advanced manufacturing and new technologies,” said Dr. Jochen Köckler, CEO of Deutsche Messe AG, which organizes HANNOVER MESSE. “As a leader in AI, clean technology and renewable energy, Canada is a perfect fit for our focus on digitalization and industrial transformation. This partnership highlights HANNOVER MESSE’s commitment to global progress and fosters cross-border connections for sustainable growth and innovation.”
Germany is Canada’s largest trading partner within the European Union. Trade between the two countries spans a wide range of sectors. Canada’s most important exports to Germany include natural resources, agricultural products, machinery and aerospace parts. Meanwhile, Canada imports large amounts of machinery, automotive products, chemicals and high-tech equipment from Germany.
