With its 2D radar sensor RMS2000, SICK offers a versatile and reliable detection and measurement solution suitable for use under harsh operating and environmental conditions. The RMS2000 uses state-of-the-art frequency-modulated radar technology, known as Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW), which operates in the 61 GHz frequency band. This not only enables particularly high-resolution distance and velocity measurements, but also the simultaneous detection of multiple stationary and moving objects.

Thanks to this modern radar technology, both detection and distance measurements work very reliably even in heavy rain, snow, fog or with a lot of dust in the surrounding air. With its aluminum housing, high IP protection rating, high- and low-temperature design as well as industrial-grade shock and vibration resistance, the maintenance-free RMS2000 also meets all requirements for high availability and a long service life. This makes the 2D radar sensor ideal for use in outdoor applications such as open-cut mines, agriculture, forestry, ports, airports and the transport sector.

The RMS2000 is suitable for demanding industrial applications that require a high degree of adaptability. For example, the RMS2000 can monitor up to four freely configurable fields and determine both the 2D position and the velocity of many objects simultaneously. The RMS2000 radar technology uses the Doppler effect to determine whether an object is stationary or moving, approaching or receding, and at what speed.

The RMS2000 is currently available in two versions: for a standard range of 0.4 m to 100 m and for long-range applications from 1.6 m to 200 m. Both versions of the radar sensor feature a wide aperture angle of 120° horizontally and 8° vertically, which allows for a large detection field. Both devices are extremely convenient due to their weight of 300 g and their compact housing (34 mm x 97 mm x 96 mm).

High reliability, low maintenance costs

Robustness means reliability, especially under harsh operating and environmental conditions. This is where the RMS2000 comes into its own: the robust aluminum housing protects against mechanical damage, and since there are no moving parts inside, the sensor is not sensitive to vibrations, shocks or impacts. Protection classes IP67 and IP69 ensure long-term protection of the RMS2000 against water penetration, even during high-pressure cleaning. Nickel-plated connectors and industrial-grade M12 connection technology ensure corrosion resistance and long-term reliability of the cabling. A reliable ambient temperature range of 40 °C to +65 °C is ensured.

The RMS2000 requires no maintenance during operation. Thanks to these properties, the RMS2000 offers high detection reliability, availability and lifetime, even when used under difficult conditions. Simple parameterization, application-specific application connection

The browser-based software SOPASair can be used not only for parameterization of the RMS2000, but also for service and diagnostic purposes. For example, IP and network addresses, working area and detection field, sensitivity and sensitivity thresholds can be adjusted individually for individual distance ranges or the entire working area.

Depending on the configuration and thanks to the powerful field evaluation integrated in the sensor, the RMS2000 can switch up to four digital outputs to issue, for example, visual and acoustic warning messages. Two digital I/Os are available for input signals. Users who want to use the RMS2000 measurement data in their own software applications have the option of transferring the data via an Ethernet TCP/IP interface (10/100 Mbit/s) for further use.
