Visitors to smart production solutions (SPS) 2019 from November 26-28 in Nuremberg will discover many interesting things at the Balluff booth 303 in Hall 7A. Among other things, Balluff will demonstrate how plant productivity can be significantly increased by predictive planning of maintenance and service. The requisite basis are intelligent sensors that provide the required input directly from the machine.

Condition monitoring sensor

The multi-function BCM condition monitoring sensor from Balluff sets new benchmarks. For little money systems and machine operators get a compact and easy to retrofit solution for continuous condition monitoring and automated monitoring of limits. This multi-talent detects various physical variables such as vibration in three axes, temperature, humidity, ambient pressure and processes them directly on board. Based on this condition data anomalies can be detected early, maintenance and repair planned ahead of time and unplanned stoppages prevented. IO-Link as the communication protocol enables simple and flexible parameter setting. This means how the sensor processes information can be tuned to the specific application.

Smart Sensor profile 2.0 for simple integration

Also on display will be sensors with IO-Link interface which have been developed according to the Smart Sensor profile 2.0. They feature an extremely uniform data structure and can be integrated into existing systems with no problem even without use of the IODD device description. They also provide various predefined functions for improvement of preventive maintenance strategies. The new BMP magnetic field positioning system and the BML SL1 absolute magnetic encoder from Balluff are examples for this.

Vision solutions for manufacturing

Machine vision is indispensable for modern, flexible manufacturing. At the exhibition Balluff will be showing examples of their comprehensive BVS Vision Solutions range. This covers a highly versatile spectrum of applications in the areas of object detection, identification and quality assurance.

And anyone who thinks machine vision solutions are a book with seven seals that can only be understood by experts will quickly learn otherwise. Balluff shows with their new BVS Cockpit operator interface that the vast majority of tasks are actually easy to handle. With this scalable solution different device platforms from the Balluff vision portfolio can be used to generate significant synergy effects. Users can intuitively set up the cameras with no prior knowledge or experience.

And by the way: to assemble the optimal vision solution for an application there is the Balluff Machine Vision Configurator. This offers full support in selecting the right components.

Growing safety portfolio

Visitors will also find interesting products at SPS in the Balluff safety portfolio. This Balluff range is being continuously expanded and includes among other things safe I/O modules, opto-electronic protection devices, a variety of safety sensors and switches, as well as safety guard locking devices and safety command devices.

Use quick-change tools more efficiently with Tool-ID

Also at the exhibition will be the new version 2.0 of Easy Tool-ID. This entry level into automated tool management uses RFID and can be retrofitted economically and simply without modifications to the machine tool. It features an additional touchscreen display and offers the user even greater convenience in practical operation as well as during configuration via web browser.

Maintain injection molding tools based on condition

Molds are subject to wear and tear and must be regularly maintained and cleaned. MOLD-ID from Balluff makes the use of injection molds traceable and ensures their optimal utilization while supporting condition based maintenance. The best part: Mold ID is backed by an autonomous system that can be retrofitted anywhere and at any time on all machines, without the need for the manufacturer or intervention in the controller.

Using the new system solution Connected Mold-ID multiple MOLD-ID systems can also be networked with each other cross-plant, data for the molds acquired and stored in a central database and visualized in a browser application. Information displayed includes tool inventory, tool details, history as well as status of each individual MOLD-ID system.
