From September 29 to October 1 2015, FachPack (European Trade fair for Packaging Solutions) will once again set up camp just outside Nuremberg, enabling visitors to discover the latest technology trends in the packaging industry. Baumüller will be located at Stand 228 in Hall 4A and will present a wide range of fieldbuses, drives, software and control solutions as well as Industry 4.0-enabled complete systems.
New converter series for maximum flexibility
With the new decentralized b maXX 2500 drive, Baumüller has combined its proven b maXX 3300 inverter series with the robust DSD, DSC and DSP servo motors. The result is a compact drive with integrated electronics and a power range up to approx. 6.5 kW. The b maXX 2500 offers integrated safety technology and, as well as supporting traditional fieldbuses such as EtherCAT, can be flexibly integrated into networked drive structures with Powerlink, VARAN, PROFINET IRT (in addition, Sercos III support is in development). For maximum usability, the b maXX 2500 can be operated via the Baumüller hand-held control panel, which is connected to the controller directly via the parameterization interface. Constructed in accordance with IP 65, an innovative cooling concept allows the b maXX 2500 to be installed in all locations while delivering consistently high performance. In addition to its wide range of supported fieldbus systems, this provides additional flexibility for machine manufacturers.
Baumüller is also setting new standards with its b maXX 5000 family of converters. With its high-performance power modules, the stackable servo-controller delivers excellent performance with air, water and cold plate cooling methods. An integrated Drive-Connect system means individual modules can be easily added or removed without disengaging the entire drive system. The series also has a lot to offer when it comes to safety — three different, pluggable safety modules with scalable functionality and an integrated parameter memory are available for the b maXX 5000. Using inverters and controllers by Baumüller, both standardized and complex drive and automation solutions are possible in the power range from 1 to 90 kW.
Digital signals for better communication
For its automation solutions Baumüller relies on Hiperface DSL and EnDat 2.2 (among others), which allow users to open up new opportunities. On the one hand, the purely digital protocol decreases the system’s susceptibility to interference, which in many cases results in a significant increase in efficiency, and on the other, additional information such as the motor temperature can also be transmitted directly from the logs. When this is combined with a single-cable solution, machine manufacturers can benefit from additional advantages — lower wiring costs enable a leaner machine architecture, which in turn results in a greater degree of freedom regarding machine design. With the ProMaster engineering framework, Baumüller also provides a user-friendly solution for the time-saving generation of various processes at the control level. For example, using web-based or classic visualization tools, the user can generate intuitive motion profiles for thermoforming machines, thus benefiting from flexible, optimal curve progression as well as reduced development and commissioning costs. At the same time, the machine’s intelligent configurability is increased via integrated model management. Embedded service and production technologies also enable the operator to minimize production losses or detect them at an earlier stage.
Suitable motors for every application
At this year’s FachPack, Baumüller will present its extensive motor portfolio alongside innovative technology solutions. Whether DSE synchronous motors with buried magnets and a particularly high power density, the DSD2-, DSC and DSP series or compact disc motors, the renowned drive and automation specialist provides an appropriate drive for every application in the packaging industry. Specially adapted to the demands of packaging foods and pharmaceutical products, Baumüller’s ETA-Drive is a motor/transmission combination that excels with an aseptic, fully enclosed housing design and excellent system efficiency. The DST2 series for applications requiring high torque completes the company’s wide range of drive systems for packaging machinery manufacturers.
