B&R has added Codian D2, D4 and D5 series robotics hardware to its automation portfolio. This provides users and machine builders with a solution for pick-and-place applications where robot and axis movements are synchronized with high precision. Codian robotics hardware can be integrated into any machine configuration with any controller.
Codian robotics hardware is a part of the comprehensive automation solutions offered by B&R, a member of the ABB Group. The expanded portfolio of delta configurations, including top-of-the-line models with hygienic design, is open to any control platform. Customers benefit from getting everything – controller, development environment and robotics – from a single source. The advantage for B&R customers is the unprecedented synchronization precision between robotics and machine control. They only need one controller and one engineering system for development, diagnostics and maintenance. There is no need for a robot control cabinet. Since fewer components are required, the environmental footprint of the system is reduced.
Easy programming and implementation
Codian robots are now available as a total solution – Machine-Centric Robotics – offering all the benefits of integration, such as tighter synchronization and easier programming of pick-and-place solutions with mapp Robotics, without requiring specialist robotics knowledge. At the same time, predefined function blocks can be used to simplify the programming of the motion sequences.
Machine builders (OEMs) can produce their systems faster. Operators can become productive faster, giving them a competitive advantage. During operation, users benefit from the precise synchronization of the mechanical axes and the robot movements. This guarantees short cycle times, which in turn enables faster production as well as shorter logistics processes. In addition, robotics and automation have the same familiar user interface.
Delta robots for different target groups
Codian’s D2 series robots are used in end-of-line packaging, cosmetics, consumer electronics or pharmaceutical manufacturing where two-axis motion is required for precise pick-and-place applications. D4 delta robots are ideal for top-loading applications with moving conveyor belts. This series excels in high-speed production lines.
They are the best solution when customers want to automate and speed up their processes. The five-axis D5 series delta robots are well suited to applications where products are rotated or tilted: Two parallel axes make the robots more flexible. One axis is used to rotate the product while the other axis tilts the product. All three series are designed for high payloads and can sort, group or assign products at conveyor belt speeds of up to 60 m/min. With IP69K protection, Codian robotics hardware is also ideally suited for use in food and beverage applications that require hygienic designs.
