System redundancy is essential in the process industry or for infrastructure facilities, as systems must be maintained even in the event of failure.

Any interruption to a continuous production process, regardless of the company, can cause significant economic problems or even endanger people. For this reason, these areas place special requirements on system controls and field devices.

High system availability thanks to type 8652 with PROFINET S2 system redundancy

If a machine, system or control system fails, the company incurs high costs due to downtime and associated loss of production.

Therefore, the Type 8652 valve island is available with both PROFINET media redundancy protocol (MRP) and S2 system redundancy.

Avoidance of total failures in the event of a technical failure on a single device thanks to the media redundancy protocol (MRP)

If a communication connection of type 8652 is interrupted (e.g. due to a cable break), the valve island is powered via the additional cable via an alternative communication path. In this way, failures due to cable breakage at field or device level can be avoided.

However, this feature does not protect against downtime if the programmable logic controller (PLC) fails.

PROFINET S2 system redundancy prevents total failures in the event of a technical failure in a system controller

The type 8652 can now be connected to two system controllers simultaneously thanks to the corresponding PROFINET interface. If a PLC fails or requires maintenance, the second PROFINET network is used for seamless data exchange.
