Carlo Gavazzi, specialist in components for industrial and building automation, will be showing two new safety magnetic sensors at the 2022 Hanover Fair. The devices of the MC36 and MC88 series, together with the corresponding magnetic actuators, are used to monitor the position of rotating, sliding or removable guards in the industrial sector. They cover the temperature range from -25 to +80 °C and are also suitable for use in damp, dusty and dirty industrial environments due to their IP67 or IP69K protection. With a suitable safety module, you can achieve up to safety category 4 and performance level e according to EN13849-1. New capacitive sensors in stainless steel and Teflon housing (PTFE) supplement the manufacturer’s IO-Link range for use with aggressive media. After connection to an IO-Link master, the sensors of the CA series can be configured very easily and enable two simultaneous physical measurements of object distances. Carlo Gavazzi will be exhibiting in Hall 9, Stand H17.

The safety magnetic sensors of the MC36 series come in a compact plastic housing with the dimensions 36x26x13 mm. The safe switch-on distance Sao is 5 mm and the safe switch-off distance Sar is 15 mm. The MC88 series in the standard housing with the dimensions 88x25x13 mm offers versions with three different permanent magnets especially for applications in which a precise approach of the magnet is not possible and very large tolerances are required. With the strongest permanent magnet, the safe switch-on distance Sao is 18 mm and the safe switch-off distance Sar is 30 mm. Both series offer different versions for the right or left door hinge, cable or plug connection and the combination of NO and NC contacts.

Capacitive IO-Link sensors for industrial applications

With the new generation of capacitive IO-Link high-performance sensors, most solid or liquid measurement objects can be detected in applications such as plastics and rubber processing, agriculture, the food and beverage industry, and materials handling . The fourth generation of Tripleshield technology offers increased electromagnetic interference (EMI) immunity, especially against frequency converters, and improves immunity to moisture and dust.

Version in stainless steel and Teflon

The capacitive proximity switches of both series are Ecolab-certified and suitable for use with cleaning agents and disinfectants. The version with AISI316L stainless steel housing is mechanically very stable and is suitable for applications with rough cleaning processes such as in food processing. Teflon (PTFE: polytetrafluoroethylene) is primarily known as a non-stick coating in frying pans. The sensor version with Teflon can be used in welding, for example, since welding beads on PTFE-coated sensors do not burn into the plastic parts or otherwise adhere to the sensor, but roll off immediately. The surface also prevents adhesion when capturing plastic material. The sensor front is designed for a temperature of up to 120 °C.

In IO-Link mode, the sensor generates a 16-bit analog process data output that represents the dielectric constant (permittivity) measured by the sensor. This means that the recorded material can not only be detected, but also precisely determined.

The sensors are available in versions with M18 and M30 threads, with cable and M12 plug-in connections and with different switching distances.
