Diversified power management solutions manufacturer Eaton Corporation will be showcasing Energizing your Machine and Energizing your Power Management at this year’s Hannover Messe under the motto “Follow the Charge”. The company focuses on always thinking one step ahead in order to meet the challenge of the rapidly growing energy demand worldwide. From April 8 to 12, 2013, in Hall 11, Stand C69, visitors to the Hannover Messe can find out for themselves how power management will look like in the future and what solutions Eaton can already offer for it today.
In the next 50 years, the global demand for energy is expected to double. The automation of manufacturing processes will be more extensive, IT centers will process unimaginable volumes of information, global trade will further increase, and the search for oil and gas reserves will have intensified. The challenge of this future vision is being met by Eaton by developing solutions and products for preparing already today for the world of the future. This requires the use of holistic, energy efficient systems and approaches like Lean Solution.
Industrial automation with Lean Solutions
The highlights of the fair will include a machine model that illustrates and demonstrates the implementation of Eaton’s holistic Lean Solution strategy, and shows how connection and communication technology, automation and power management can be intelligently combined. Prospective customers will thus be able to experience live, how they can implement savings and optimization potential with their machines and plants using Lean Solutions. The new PowerXL variable frequency drives reduce commissioning times for the user thanks to the autotune function. PKE motor starters with electronic wide-range overload protection and SmartWire-DT interface transfer diagnostic, status or overload messages, as well as the actual motor current values. The operator can thus increase the efficiency and operational reliability of his drives to achieve the optimum power management of plants and machines. These are features that Eaton offers under the term Lean Power.
In the Lean Solution machine model, the SmartWire-DT cooperation partner Wöhner is showcasing new busbar adapters with an integrated SmartWire-DT connection for NZM1 circuit-breakers, bus-mounted fuse switch-disconnectors and motor starters. Users can benefit from the reduced material, mounting and wiring costs, since the devices can now be integrated easily in Eaton’s communication technology and into the main power distribution system. A SmartWire-DT Profinet gateway from communication systems specialists Hilscher – another SmartWire-DT cooperation partner – is used for the data exchange with the control level. Profinet enables a high data throughput and a uniform infrastructure that reaches right into the control level – enabling the simultaneous access to process and diagnostics data of all individual switching devices. For the user the resulting data transparency provides the optimum basis for a reliable and high performing operation of the system. Energy measuring and monitoring are handled by the Eaton NZM circuit-breakers in conjunction with the NZM-XMC measuring and communication module. This provides all the relevant measuring data for calculating the energy consumption of the machine. As a result, the user can reduce his production costs by identifying and eliminating the so-called “gray energy”. A concept study shows that both actuators and sensors, as well as hydraulic valves can be integrated in the Lean Solution concept via SmartWire-DT.
Savings in resources and working time, as well as a simultaneous increase in performance, are some of the most important benefits of the Lean Solution approach, which also includes Lean Automation and Lean Power as well as Lean Connectivity. In the field of Lean Automation, Eaton’s XV100 HMI/PLC takes on the role of operation and control of the model machine. Users are thus able to reduce engineering and commissioning times, since the hardware and software interfaces between individual components, such as displays, PLC, remote I/Os or fieldbus gateways are no longer necessary. The touch display PLC provides all the necessary functions in a single device and thus also contributes to increased machine efficiency.
As well as the model machine, Eaton is also showcasing other new products. This includes for example the EMS electronic motor starters up to 3 kW, which combine in a single switching device four functions (direct motor starting, reverse motor starting, and motor protection), as well as the safety-related shutdown of the drive. The user makes considerable savings in mounting and device costs, since the wiring requirement is reduced by up to 60% compared to conventional switchgear assemblies, and the share of required hardware components by as much as 70 %. The easyRemote display app for controlling the easy800 control relay by smartphone enables the user to now also communicate with the controller outside of noisy and dangerous areas. The easyRemote display app thus not only increases general user-friendliness but also increases work safety at the same time. The new signal towers (SL7 and SL4) stand out on account of their excellent visibility. Plant operators can thus identify faults more precisely and prevent them in time, as well as increasing system availability. The mounting and disassembly time when transporting machines is reduced thanks to their handy bayonet fitting.
Power distribution and power management
Furthermore, Eaton is presenting new communication-enabled drawer units for motor control centers with a SmartWire-DT connection. The integrated communication opens up the possibility of extensive diagnostic functions that simplify troubleshooting and reduce plant downtimes. The simple exchange of drawer units during operation, together with the possibility of predictive maintenance based on decentralized intelligence, guarantee increased automation for machines and plants. Eaton will also be showcasing with xEffect a new comprehensive switchgear series suitable for global use. The innovative complete program enables the implementation of safe solutions for industrial power distribution up to 1,600 A for the machine and system building, shipbuilding and renewable energy sectors.
Eaton is also demonstrating its solution expertise in the field of switchboards for medium voltage networks. The SF6-free Xiria E switchboard was specially developed for use in the distribution substations of utility companies, as well as for industrial applications. The modular system enables the implementation of space saving and expandable energy management solutions. For smart grid applications, Eaton is offering the Power Xpert FMX and UX medium voltage systems for the application specific implementation of the protective function, measuring and monitoring of current and voltage values, as well as the monitoring of switch states.
As well as Energizing your Machine and Energizing your Power Management, Eaton will also be showcasing power quality solutions, particularly for IT center and industrial applications. As experts in the field of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), cooling, plant monitoring and network connection, Eaton has an extensive offer in this field. In addition to the UPSs, this also includes surge protective devices, switchboards, rack mount power distribution units (PDUs), remote monitoring, software, communication components, enclosures as well as related services. The highlights in Hannover will include the new 93PM UPS (30-50 kW), that stands out on account of its excellent efficiency of 96.7% in online operation.
At the same time, the Eaton Hydraulics Group will be presenting its latest products and electrohydraulic solutions in Hall 21, Stand F03. These focus on reducing energy consumption and production costs, as well as enabling detailed machine diagnostics.
