Ewellix, formerly SKF Motion Technologies, has launched a new smooth running, high precision large ball screw range for automation and high duty applications that will extend machine reliability and increase service life, while achieving 25% higher speed limits and low noise levels.

The large SP ball screws are the latest update to Ewellix’s product line and are being launched first in the US where precision ball screws are the preferred choice for automation equipment and machine tool manufacturers. The range features an innovative internal design where balls are picked up smoothly in the ball recirculation path. The reduced friction and impact on the balls result in optimal performance through the new recirculation system compared to existing large ball screws.

Robust and capable of handling high thrust loads, the screws are supplied in a standard range of nut types available off-the-shelf for shorter delivery times; they are also available as customised solutions to meet any application requirement.

Product developer, Robert Alexander explains further: “Automated equipment manufacturers need components and systems that offer high reliability, precision and repeatability with low noise. Our new SP Series provides all of this, plus gives manufacturers a wide range of design flexibility. Enabling precise positioning, even in the most demanding applications, these quiet running ball screws operate at high speeds with low friction and therefore will have minimal service requirements.”

The SP Series is comprised of three external interfaces:

  • SP – a cylindrical design with machined outside diameter and machined key;
  • SPF – an integral flange design with machined outside diameter and six bolt holes for mounting; and
  • SPT – a universal, threaded-nose design which is interchangeable with most existing standard solutions and has the same attachment as the existing Ewellix SX series.

The new series is suitable for gantry milling, precision grinding, honing machines and servo presses as well as processes such as material handling, material forming, and automated production and assembly.
