The new PCMM2G programmable motion controller from Kollmorgen, a leader in motion control and automation systems worldwide, was unveiled today.
This extremely scalable controller adds new features and significantly improves performance to a wide range of devices, from independent machines to intricate, modular automation systems. It facilitates straightforward connection with systems built on the Kollmorgen Automation Suite as well as with external devices.
The PCMM2G controller offers a straightforward migration route, increased flexibility, and a 1.5–3.5 times quicker fieldbus cycle rate compared to PCMM and PDMM. It is also compatible with Kollmorgen’s previous generation PDMM and PCMM controllers. Most third-party automation solutions are also supported by it.
Based on a quad-core 1.5 GHz processor that achieves industry-leading cycle speeds, Kollmorgen has developed a new controller. Small, basic machine modules to highly complicated automation settings with up to 64 axes of synchronized route motion, including S-curves and other intricate maneuvers, are all supported by its architecture.
In addition, the PCMM2G controller has an onboard human-machine interface panel, six digital inputs, two digital outputs, inbuilt functional safety modules, and 16 GB of internal flash memory.
For quick system integration with the majority of systems, 100BASE-T connectivity supports UDP, HTTP, Modbus®, Ethernet/IP, and PROFINET®. System configuration is possible with two Ethernet ports when linked to an industrial network. Precise timing and synchronization on all axes are guaranteed by an uninterruptible real-time clock with battery backup and support for an external time-keeping server via network time protocol (NTP).
The PCMM2G provides users of Kollmorgen PDMM and PCMM controllers with an easy upgrade route and step-by-step migration help. Additionally, complete online and live support is available to all clients.
Plug-and-play capabilities with Kollmorgen Automation Suite and third-party systems ensure easy setup. Integrated tools simplify and speed network configuration, servo tuning and machine optimization. Support for file management and backup/restore is provided through a USB slot to accommodate removable flash drives.
