Kollmorgen revealed the newest update to its SafeMotion™ Monitor (SMM) firmware: SMM2.0. This enhancement enables OEMs to utilize SMM functional safety features with additional encoder and motor types to cater to a broader array of applications, including material shaping, multi-axis measurement devices, food manufacturing, and food packaging.
Initially standard for the 2G Motion System, SMM2.0 will now be usable with all motors that include any HIPERFACE-DSL rotary-safe feedback system. This encompasses the AKM2G and AKMA motor series, which now offer an expanded selection of feedback system choices. SMM2.0 additionally allows for a second Safe Operating Stop (SOS) instance, enhancing design flexibility.
Due to new regulations concerning functional safety introduced by the EU, clients worldwide in various sectors are pursuing enhancements to comply with these updated standards. SMM2.0 simplifies compliance by offering a complete array of 16 safety features, such as SafePosition, SafeStop, and SafeSpeed.
