The new Hengstler HS35iQ hollow shaft encoder with PulseIQ™ technology is a feedback device with self-diagnosis, colored LEDs and digital output. The device opens up new possibilities for OEMs and end users to troubleshoot encoders in demanding machine applications by allowing access to the functional status of the encoder in real time. Specific error messages prevent unnecessary downtime, and corrective action recommendations allow users to resolve the underlying cause as quickly as possible.

Hengstler’s HS35iQ encoder offers a number of advantages:

  • Environmental data: IP67, 400g impact, 20g vibration, temperature and standard operating conditions
  • Pre-warning of faults including clutch slippage, overspeed, line faults, over/undertemperature and encoder status
  • Configuration of error conditions for warnings/error messages for overspeed and temperature
  • Error log can be viewed through PulseIQ™ encoder software
  • Programmable resolution (max. 20,000 pulses per revolution), selectable output phase, voltage, index width, gate times and index pulse position

The patented encoder technology immediately recognizes if the mechanical coupling is not tight enough or if the shaft and hole sizes do not match. This is a very valuable function, since slippage of the coupling between the motor shaft and the encoder can cause unwanted stops of the encoder. Another feature of the encoder is its overspeed alarms: they protect machines and employees from unsafe operating conditions. If the mechanical connection becomes loose or the shaft reaches critical speeds, the corresponding fault indicators change to indicate the fault condition before it occurs. Lifecycle data and error status are available at any time in the onboard memory and can be retrieved via the PulseIQ™ encoder software.

Customized encoder designs for a wide range of applications Using PulseIQ™, users can also individually configure the following encoder data: Resolution (1-20,000 pulses per revolution), phase position, ABZ/error output voltage, polarity of Z-index pulse, position and gate time. Other programmable functions include environment configuration and fault specifications, as well as an event log. Grouping several programming options under a common part number simplifies encoder storage.

Avoid high costs

The costs of replacing encoders and cables, troubleshooting, and material losses add up quickly. With the HS35iQ, these problems are a thing of the past: The encoder helps users immediately recognize the underlying cause of a system failure and thus avoid many hours of unproductive time.
