Schneider Electric presenting the Modicon Edge I/O NTS, a new and innovative input/output system (I/O) for data aggregation
As a decentralized IP20 I/O system, Modicon Edge is designed to meet today’s requirements of a wide range of applications with a single I/O series. These include applications in mechanical engineering, system integrators, discrete manufacturing and the process industry. The spectrum of industries covered is also broad, ranging from mechanical engineering to the packaging industry and food to critical infrastructure, data centers or energy and chemicals. At the same time, technologies and functions have been integrated that make the system a highly future-proof solution.
The Modicon Edge I/O NTS impresses with its robustness in terms of temperature, vibration and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and is characterized by its small space requirement and easy operation. The integrated web server ensures easy commissioning and the compact design makes it easy to integrate into existing systems.
With open Ethernet protocols for the best possible connectivity with a wide range of devices and architectures, Modicon Edge I/O NTS integrates data intelligence into the latest technologies to enable even higher performance, availability and cybersecurity in the future. The internal communication in the backbone of the Edge I/O NTS is already based on OPC UA technology, which enables secure communication and interoperability between different Ethernet protocols, but is not currently visible to the outside. This also applies to aspects of cybersecurity and the connection to the new motion controllers. These functions are prepared and will be available in future development stages, making the system a very future-proof solution.
With the Modicon Edge I/O NTS, Schneider Electric is setting new standards for networked products that meet the requirements of Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
