https://www.piab.com/The BXP ESD is a new series of modular suction cups designed to protect sensitive components in batteries, fuel cells and electronics from the harmful effects of electrostatic discharge during handling. “We are proud to offer this useful innovation to our automotive customers at a time when the automotive industry is experiencing rapid growth,” said Anders Falk, Automotive Product Manager, Vacuum Automation, Piab.

Electrostatic discharge (ESD), a sudden flow of electricity built up between two objects, is a negative side effect for many manufacturing industries. Not only does ESD pose a danger to workers, it can also damage sensitive battery components and electronics, ultimately leading to malfunctions and failures.

This problem is usually solved by using external anti-static devices inside the factory or connected to the machines. Additions ultimately lead to higher costs and increased maintenance, but can also make use of already tight spaces more difficult. They can also restrict machine movement.

To help customers overcome this issue, Piab has developed a new series of suction cups incorporating ESD protection technology.

“BXP ESD is a new type of modular suction cup designed to handle delicate objects in the battery and fuel cell manufacturing process. It is made from ESD DURAFLEX, a semi-conductive polyurethane designed to enable grounding of the lifted object. “Grounding allows static electricity to dissipate safely,” says Anders Falk, Automotive Product Manager, Vacuum Automation, Piab.

Regardless of the size you choose, the new BXP ESD cups cover a surface resistance range of 10^6 to 10^9 Ω (ohms), ensuring the safety and integrity of batteries, fuel cells and electronic components in any handling situation. A range tested and approved by independent institutions.

In addition to its antistatic properties, ESD DURAFLEX combines the elasticity of rubber with the abrasion resistance of polyurethane, making it flexible and durable. Before assembly, each cup is paired with a special conductive fitting that meets established antistatic requirements. Installation is as easy as with a standard suction cup.

“This integrated facility enables Piab to easily dissipate harmful static electricity without adding additional heavy machinery to the affected machines. We are proud to be able to offer this beneficial innovation to our automotive customers at a time when the automotive industry is experiencing rapid growth,” concludes Anders Falk.
