With the new LD30 sensor series, Carlo Gavazzi, a specialist in industrial and building automation components, is bringing flexible IO-Link laser sensors to the market. They are equipped with the predefined application function dual detection. This combines foreground suppression with diffuse reflection, so that transparent PET bottles can also be captured. Normal background suppression can also be selected. As laser class 1 sensors, the LD30 sensors can detect small objects at long distances or near a background with a highly focused 1 mm diameter laser beam with visible red light. The sensors are each available in ranges of 100 mm, 300 mm and 600 mm. The functional expansions of the new sensors implemented using IO-Link significantly reduce the effort required for setup and maintenance. As fully configurable multifunctional sensors, they can be adapted precisely to customer requirements.

The new LD30 sensors have two physical switching outputs and can be used with IO-Link communication for online monitoring and parameterization of the light barrier as well as for conventional automation systems with standard switching outputs. The IO-Link interface makes maintenance information available through remote diagnosis down to the sensor level and allows very simple configuration, for example using the portable handheld device Smart Configurator SCTL55 from Carlo Gavazzi.

Custom choice and customization

The five application functions dual detection, speed and length, pattern recognition, divider function and object and gap monitoring are predefined and selectable via IO-Link. They support the optimization of the process with additional data and simplify the layout of the machine control. In addition, parameters such as scanning distance as well as time and logic functions can be easily configured and quickly adjusted, for example when a product is changed. Further customization options include logging functions, temperature, operating hours, power cycles and configuration changes.

Stainless steel housing for the food industry

The LD30 sensors are suitable for demanding detection tasks in applications such as packaging machines and conveyor systems, particularly in the food and beverage industry. The LD30 sensors are available in plastic housings with IP 67 protection or in AISI316L stainless steel housings with IP69K and ECOLAB approval and have either a 2m cable or a 4-pin M8 connector.
