Weidmüller presents new unmanaged switches with Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) connectivity. The switches bring performance in industrial applications to a new level. SPE technology extends the range of Internet connections and at the same time enables parallel power transmission over two-wire cables.

In many industrial applications, the transmission of data over long distances and at various levels can be a major challenge. In some cases, not only data but also power must be transmitted from the switch to the sensor. Companies that have to meet this special requirement can rely on a future-oriented solution with Weidmüller’s unmanaged switch 10Base-T1L SPE.

The 10Base-T1L SPE switch ensures reliable data transmission over distances of up to one kilometer. For comparison: conventional Ethernet based on RJ45 only reaches 100 meters. With a bandwidth of 10 Mbit/s, the performance is significantly higher than the RS485 standard over similar distances. Compared to other interfaces, Weidmüller’s 10Base-T1L SPE switch is not only more reliable but also provides a powerful network connection for industrial devices such as sensors. Additionally, the mating surface of the SPE connection is suitable for industrial applications and prevents micro-interruptions in transmission.

Provides data and power in minimal space

A great feature of the 10Base-T1L SPE switch is its support for Power over Data Line (PoDL) up to class 14. It can provide up to 50 watts of power to a single port on the switch. Features such as Serial Communications Classification Protocol (SCCP) and forced mode simplify the power setup for new devices.

SPE technology is particularly advantageous in areas where space is limited because both data and power flow over a single pair of wires, meaning only one cable needs to be laid. And by using copper cables instead of expensive fiber optic technology, it makes connecting sensors cost-effective in a variety of industrial scenarios. Compared to fiberglass, copper has a larger bend radius and is easier to install as no splices are required.

PROFINET Compliant Class A

The Quality of Service (QoS) functionality of the 10Base-T1L SPE switches allows for the distribution of resources and prioritization of data traffic across the network. This allows users to prioritize critical applications and make the most of the bandwidth. This functionality also achieves PROFINET Class A compliance and ensures seamless connection to PROFINET-compatible networks.

Weidmüller’s 10Base-T1L SPE unmanaged switches are a cost-effective, space-saving solution that overcomes the challenges of data transmission and power supply. The unmanaged 10Base-T1L SPE switch offers users an alternative to fiber optic technology.
