Rotary encoder from FSG – Robust all-rounder, flexible in use

Rotary encoders from FSG have proven themselves to be reliable and long-lasting sensors in many industries. They are used in various areas such as rail vehicle construction and maintenance, mechanical engineering, shipbuilding and offshore, renewable energies as well as in agricultural engineering applications and in construction machinery. Thanks to innovative technology and their compact, robust design, FSG encoders are internationally recognized as components of the highest quality that are also ideal for safety-relevant applications.

The FSG rotary encoder program currently consists of several series with sizes from 22 mm to 100 mm housing diameter as well as many customer-specific special versions with sizes from 13 mm to 125 mm diameter. The housing is usually made of durable anodized aluminum; many models are also optionally available with a stainless steel housing. Typical for FSG is the large variety of variants that cover analog and digital interfaces.

In the area of rail transport and vehicle construction, applications can be found in travel and brake switches for speed regulation, in the undercarriage for load detection and level control, as well as in systems for positioning and measuring overhead lines. In agricultural technology, FSG encoders can be used to control the height of spray systems, as well as to record the mower position, to measure material flow in combine harvesters and generally where feedback on the wheelbase position is required for steering.

MH613 – compact and programmable

With a housing length of 36 mm, the MH613 series rotary encoders are also suitable for applications where little installation space is available. They are available as a singleturn or multiturn version (for a maximum of 16 revolutions). The measuring system is magnetic and therefore non-contact. The signal setting can be easily programmed using a membrane keyboard on the back of the housing; Versions for 4-20 mA or 0-10 V are available as signal output.

MH1023 – the robust all-rounder

Maximum flexibility in application is the basic concept of this encoder model from FSG. The MH1023 series can be equipped with all common analog and digital interfaces as well as with virtually any desired plug or cable connection. Here too, FSG offers variants in single-turn or multi-turn versions (for a maximum of 4096 revolutions), with an aluminum housing as standard or optionally in a stainless steel version. The signal output can be reprogrammed by the user himself.

The MH1023-Ex variant with ATEX or IECEx approval is designed for operation in potentially explosive areas (singleturn only). A typical application example can be found in agricultural technology: The MH1023-Ex rotary encoder has been used as a reliable and precise component for level measurement in biogas plants for many years. For maritime applications, FSG has developed a customer-specific version with DNV approval that works reliably even under harsh operating conditions.

Special designs and individual configurations possible

What all models have in common is the robust design with high IP protection (up to IP69k) and a long service life. Many of the encoders are also certified for use in special areas of application, for example with ATEX, IECEx or DNV approval, or as redundant sensors for safety-relevant applications.

In addition, based on its broad series portfolio, FSG always offers its customers the opportunity to receive individually configured devices that are precisely tailored to the desired specifications. Thanks to the high level of vertical integration, the sensor technology expert can also produce prototypes, individual pieces or small series in a short time.
