With Lexium 32 Integrated, Schneider Electric presents an integrated stand-alone ser-vo drive for machine and plant engineering. It combines the Lexium 32 servo controller and the Lexium BMH servo motor in a single unit. The servo controller is not installed in the control cabinet, but directly in the machine. This reduces the installation effort and makes shielded motor cables unnecessary. The benefits comprise increased flexibility, simplified engineering, less wiring and reduced energy costs.
The compact servo drive Lexium 32 Integrated is based on a strictly modular design which allows for the configuration of numerous individual drive versions with just a few components. With the online configuration tool, finding the right configuration is extremely simple. The drive is delivered in the form of separate components which can be assembled in a matter of minutes. This way, Lexium 32 Integrated combines the advantages of an integrated servo drive – less engineering and installation effort as well as reduced space requirements in the control cabinet – with an unprecedented degree of flexibility in customizing drives to meet individual needs.
Lexium 32 Integrated is available with 70 and 100 millimeter motor flanges. The drive is sup-plied with either 110 to 230 Volts ~ single-phase or 208 to 480 Volts ~ three-phase. Two ver-sions are provided for fieldbus and input/output connections: industrial connectors or screw terminals. With CANopen or EtherCAT, two standard communication protocols are available for communication between the drive and the master controller. CANmotion or EtherCAT can be used as communication protocols for synchronous applications. With the available sizes, fieldbus interfaces, motor power and connection possibilities, Lexium 32 Integrated is an ex-tremely flexible, decentralized drive system in the power range of up to 2.2 Kilowatts.
Easy wiring
The innovative connector concept for the connection modules allows the cables to be mounted to the top or the rear of the drive. This way, the system does not have to be adapted to the drive; instead, the drive can be adapted to meet the design requirements of the machine.
Savings result from the decreased control cabinet size and the reduced wiring and installation effort. The servo motor and the drive are a single unit which eliminates the need for power and encoder cables. In addition to leading to further savings, this decreases the engineering effort and the total harmonic factor during operation for increased machine reliability.
Energy-efficient operation
Since the servo drive is not installed in the control cabinet but directly in the machine, the energy required to air-condition the control cabinet is reduced. Lexium 32 Integrated features passive cooling and does not need a fan. The housing radiates the heat generated by the drive so that the outside air is sufficient for cooling at normal ambient temperatures.
Norbert Hoyer, Product Manager at Schneider Electric Deutschland, underlines the benefits: “Lexium 32 Integrated drives bring a vast array of advantages to machine design. According to our calculation, savings of up to 30 percent compared to conventional servo drive concepts can be achieved since no cooling is required and the control cabinets can be smaller. In addition, reduced wiring allows for faster mounting which significantly accelerates machine commissioning.”
