SICK sensingCam SEC100: targeted trace detection for sporadic errors

With the sensingCam SEC100, SICK presents a time-saving and easy-to-use plug-and-record tool for the detection and analysis of sporadic errors in industrial processes. Through live streaming and event recording, the camera is capable of efficiently and reliably determining the causes of seemingly random malfunctions such as machine downtime or assembly errors. Furthermore, it can also be valuable for process monitoring, optimizing setup and commissioning with unobserved test runs or endurance tests, and for documentation purposes.

Compact, robust, easy to install, plug-and-record, versatile – as a surveillance camera for industrial applications, the sensingCam SEC100 can provide live insights into machines and processes via streaming, all at an excellent price-performance ratio. Another application scenario is the use of the camera as a dashboard camera on board intralogistics vehicles, especially AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles) and AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots).

Targeted and quickly accessible error detection

The sensingCam SEC100 continuously records processes thanks to its 5-megapixel color sensor in Full HD quality with high accuracy and detail. The event recording function ensures that in the event of an error, the search for the cause of an error is shortened. It offers the possibility of temporally limiting the random occurrence of such sporadic events. The sensingCam SEC100 is triggered by the error event itself, either by a sensor or an automation system via the digital input via Ethernet and REST API interface. Not only the fault itself is recorded, but also up to 40 seconds before and after it – i.e., how the error develops and what its immediate effects are. This allows random errors and events in critical processes or during commissioning to be causally assessed and thus efficiently remedied.

Designed for Troubleshooting

The sensingCam SEC100 is very robust. The design of the sensor housing – front made of durable plastic, rear made of aluminum – and the lens protected by a glass cover, as well as its IP65 protection rating, underscore its industrial-grade design and suitability for demanding operating conditions. It also scores points for its simple and time-saving integration. Thanks to sophisticated mounting options such as M4 screws or a ¼-inch camera thread, as well as industry-standard connection technology with M12 connectors for power, trigger signal, and Ethernet, it is quickly installed, connected, and ready to record. Once the camera is mounted for video streaming in a confined, hard-to-reach machine environment, it can be left there.

The camera offers essential features for other or changing application scenarios. It is equipped with a fixed-focus lens and a working range of 0.3 m to 10 m, making it suitable for any field of view or subject change within this range. Parameter settings that may be required for a new application can be quickly configured via the integrated web server. This allows plant managers or service personnel to monitor potential faults on completely different machines using the same camera. Commissioning teams can also use the camera across different customer projects or for individual process monitoring.

Snapshots for Automated Documentation

In addition to unlimited live streams and event-related video sequences, the sensingCam SEC100 can also capture individual images as snapshots. This snapshot function can be used particularly for documenting the quality of processing steps, machine functions, processes, and products.
