SIEB & MEYER has further expanded its SD4x product family. From 12 to 14 November 2024, visitors to the SPS in Nuremberg can experience new variants and features of the SD4S, SD4B and SD4M series. The frequency converters for high-speed applications offer users many advantages, such as optimized performance, higher speeds and reduced motor heat generation without additional sine filters.

In Nuremberg, SIEB & MEYER is exhibiting, among other things, its complete range of services for the SD4S. Taking advantage of the increased processor performance, the control and drive electronics expert from Lüneburg has increased the maximum output frequency to 4,000 Hz for synchronous motors and 6,000 Hz for asynchronous motors. New control functions enable optimal operation of IPM motors. The additional reluctance torque available for these motors is optimized in real time, independent of the operating point. Thanks to the extensive communication interfaces, such as CANopen, Modbus RTU/TCP, EtherCAT, Powerlink and Profinet IO, the drive controller can be seamlessly integrated into various applications. The drivemaster4 parameterization software has been further developed and supports users from system design through to troubleshooting.

Multi-level frequency converters minimize motor heat generation

SIEB & MEYER’s SD4M series of three-stage frequency inverters shows its strengths in the field of turbo compressors and turbo blowers. These systems benefit from a combination of low engine heating and high system efficiency. The latter translates into noticeable energy savings and short payback periods during 24/7 full-load operation. Furthermore, the entire system can be produced more cost-effectively and with a more compact volume, as no motor choke or sine wave filter is required. The SD4M also offers the ability to control IPM motors. Different device variants are available with AC or DC power supplies, covering a power range from 70 to 500 kVA. The DC versions are suitable for generator applications such as flywheels and micro gas turbines.

Angle-synchronous operation of multiple high-speed motors

The compact drive controller SD4B is ideal as a highly dynamic servo drive for rotary and linear low-voltage servo motors. It also optimizes the operation of high-speed, low-voltage synchronous and asynchronous motors.

The drive controller allows sensor-driven motor operation thanks to the superimposed synchronization function with a 24V synchronous signal at high speeds. This makes it possible to operate multiple high-speed motors in angle-synchronous master/slave operation, which is particularly advantageous in optical applications. This means that multiple high-speed motors can be operated angle-synchronously in master/slave operation, which is useful, for example, in the field of optical systems. Robust speed control also enables reliable operation with high inertia ratios between motor and tool of up to 1:100.
