Under the motto “Accelerating transformation for a sustainable tomorrow”, Siemens is presenting new hardware and software for the Sinumeric 828D CNC control at this year’s AMB in Stuttgart. The Sinumerik 828D is specially designed for the compact and mid-range machine market. The new processor units PPU271.5, PPU270.5, PPU290.5 and PU272.5 as well as the newly designed Sinumerik 828D MCP (Machine Control Panel) operating concept offer various functions and options that increase the productivity, sustainability and efficiency of the manufacturing process.
Run MyVirtual Machine available for Sinumerik 828D
The new processor units make it possible to upgrade the Sinumeric 828D to software version 5.24, paving the way for Sinumeric Run MyVirtual Machine. Similar to Sinumerik One, a digitally native CNC, Run MyVirtual Machine allows you to create, validate and optimize NC programs using the machine’s digital twin without interrupting production. This reduces setup times on the physical machine by up to 20% and minimizes operational risks. In addition, you can visualize the machine’s working area, clamping, tools and material removal in detail at all stages of the NC program. Potential collisions can be detected and eliminated in advance. Training new employees with Run MyVirtual Machine also saves machine time and minimizes the risk of damage due to incorrect operation or programming errors.
Redesigned operating concept of the Sinumerik 828D MCP
In line with the new generation of processor units, a redesigned Sinumerik 828D MCP operating concept is being introduced. This marks the beginning of more intuitive machine operation for Siemens’ Sinumerik 828D, providing CNC users with even greater ease of use, efficiency and flexibility. The newly designed operating concept of the Sinumerik 828D MCP includes a significantly larger, innovatively designed control panel with 12.1-inch and 15.6-inch screens and mechanical buttons. The user interface can also be further adapted to specific application areas via Create MyHMI/3GL.
Improved connectivity, greater transparency of energy efficiency and improved security features
The new processor unit features an X120 interface that allows connection to external devices such as the Sinumeric HT (handheld terminal) 10 or edge devices. This expands the range of applications and increases productivity. The Ctrl+E key combination also gives access to extensive analysis functions that make energy consumption transparent. In the field of cybersecurity, the new processor unit offers security functions such as security archiving, user management and certificate storage to prevent tampering and product piracy.
With the new hardware and associated new software of the Sinumerik 828D, Siemens is once again paving the way for the digital twin to achieve greater flexibility, productivity and sustainability. At the same time, the range of applications for controlling turning, milling and grinding technologies is expanding to include areas such as power and energy, electronics and 5G, and automotive.
