With Simatic Net and other proven standards, Siemens delivers highly capable solutions for all areas of industrial communication and all industries. At our booth at SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg we are presenting proven solutions as well as numerous innovations that offer expanded capabilities and higher efficiency in many components and systems.
Linkage of AS-Interface and PROFINET
“For example, for linking AS-Interface and Profinet we have created a new link based on the decentral Simatic ET200 SP periphery, which makes it possible to mix safety and standard signals,” explained Marketing Manager Volker Hoock. “By connecting various AS-i segments to the Profinet infrastructure and combining this with Profisafe, users can communicate failsafe signals on the same bus system.”
Redundancy for the highest availability
We are also presenting several redundancy processes, which we offer with our Scalance components for setting up Ethernet networks. “With the Parallel Redundancy Protocol (PRP) and the high-availability Seamless Redundancy Protocol (HSR) we have new standard protocols for redundancy with zero switchover time“, so Volker Hoock. “By doubling telegrams, we ensure that seamless communication is retained even if the network fails.”
Higher IWLAN data rates
Thanks to innovative technology, data rates of up to 450 megabits per second are now possible with Industrial Wireless LAN. “We use models like an electric suspended rail to demonstrate that wireless technologies today are suitable even for failsafe signals,” added Volker Hoock. “For example, at the Port of Hamburg customers can learn about IWLAN controller-based solutions, which make it possible to set the parameters and run diagnostics on the many access points of large distributed networks from one central point.
PROFINET for process technology
There are now CPUs with Profinet system redundancy for Simatic S7-400, so Profinet can be used in process technology to a greater extent than before. Thanks to the new performance update, applications with very high performance and precision can be implemented with Profinet, for example in the printing industry. The communications technologies exhibited at this year’s SPS IPC Drives also include IO-Link and industrial remote communication solutions, such as Simatic Teleservice and Telecontrol products that link widely distributed substations in widely varying networks to a single control point.
