“Connecting Productivity & Efficiency“ is the slogan under which Siemens will present its comprehensive drive and automation portfolio at the SPS IPC Drives trade fair 2012 in Nuremberg. The focus will be on integrated products, systems and solution which help increase productivity throughout the production process while offering excellent energy efficiency. They include efficient engineering and intelligent product lifecycle management and flexible, energy saving drive technology, products for low-voltage power distribution and electrical equipment, with customized service and support.

Siemens will be demonstrating how to combine productivity and energy efficiency at the SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg from November 27 to 29, 2012. As energy costs rise and production becomes increasingly complex, continuous optimization of industrial processes is essential. „Automation and drive technology is a key tool in overcoming current challenges in industry and improving companies‘ competitiveness. Integrated approaches such as that followed by Siemens successfully use this tool right along the value chain,“ says Heinz Eisenbeiss, Siemens booth manager at SPS IPC Drives 2012.

Efficient engineering and intelligent product lifecycle management Maximum efficiency in engineering opens up new potential for increasing productivity in a wide range of industries. Siemens shows how you can systematically set new efficiency standards by using the latest version of the TIA portal (Totally Integrated Automation). The intuitive engineering framework allows for easy integration of machines and plant components into existing systems. All planning and production processes can be optimized along the entire value chain from just one screen.

Intelligent product lifecycle management is also becoming increasingly important in light of ever shorter product life cycles. Open PLM software solutions from Siemens can transform innovation processes throughout a company and reduce time-to-market. With optimized product and process development as well as simple management of all data throughout the entire life cycle, companies can optimize the product creation process and speed up successful market rollout.

Achieving economic and ecological goals with integrated drive technology The change to energy-efficient drive technology is opening up significant savings potential for industry, while helping companies comply with the domestic environmental regulations that are in force in many countries.

With Simogear, Siemens offers a new generation of geared motors to international efficiency standards IE2 and IE3. They offer advanced efficiency at standard market dimensions, which means they can be seamlessly integrated into existing plants with no need for structural modifications. The reduced design length also lets you use the efficient motors in smaller spaces.

The comprehensive component range for integrated drive trains includes members of the Sinamics converter family. Thanks to its large product range, Siemens can meet the demands of an increasingly diverse mechanical engineering and construction sector, offering the right solution for every drive function. Solutions include the latest innovation, Sinamics V20, and the most recent versions of the Sinamics G120C and Sinamics G120P converters.

There is a tremendous variety of motors used in the industry today. For this reason, Siemens has grouped its comprehensive range of electric motors into one product family, Simotics, to provide a better overview of our range of products and make it easier to find the best solution for each application. This ensures that users can always take advantage of the full potential for saving energy and improving productivity.

Increasing availability of automation and drive technology with Simatic Remote Services

The availability of automation and drive technology plays an important part in improving a company‘s competitiveness. Siemens provides extensive support for the whole life cycle of constructions and machines, such as Simatic Remote Support Services. These services include proactive and plant-specific support which would be inefficient or difficult to implement with conventional support processes. The basis for this is the Siemens Remote Service platform (SRS) which facilitates a safe connection of the automation respectively the drive system. Users benefit from short turnaround times and solutions at low service costs – and therefore from more productivity.

Reliable energy supply

Industrial companies depend on reliable energy supply of their plants. Failures can quickly lead to high costs. In addition, the companies are required to effectively reduce their energy consumption.

The Sivacon S8 low voltage switchgears and the Sentron protection, switching, measuring and monitoring devices from Siemens enable maximum plant availability, high safety and efficiency. With a thermal monitoring function integrated into the switchgear, for example, faults can be identified at an early stage and downtime can be avoided. The energy distribution can be also integrated into the higher-level control system via standard-based communication systems and can thus be visualized and monitored centrally on the basis of WinCC Open Architecture. An initialization for the Simocode Pro V motor control stores and automatically loads device parameters and bus addresses, thus simplifying the operation of the switchgear.

Integrated energy efficiency

Efficient use of energy throughout a company is a highly effective means for increasing competitiveness in the long run. Integrated energy management such as that offered by Siemens can create great energy-saving potential. Sophisticated concepts, systems, and products plus customized energy and environmental services help companies significantly reduce their energy consumption, from the field to the management level. The Siemens energy efficiency portfolio is presented in the Energy Efficiency Truck, which will also be on-site at the SPS Drives in Nuremberg.
