The virtual CODESYS safety control, announced in 2023, has been technically released and is awaiting certification by TÜV Süd. Once launched, the product will be used in Audi vehicle production.
CODESYS Group has been developing and selling security software certified according to IEC 61508 for more than 10 years. In 2023, the company announced CODESYS Virtual Safe Control SL, a virtual safety control that is certified for SIL3 applications without relying on special hardware.
The new product is currently going through the technical release process. This includes numerous integration tests and handling feedback from the certification body TÜV Süd, who was involved in the product’s development from the very beginning, evaluating the risk analysis and approving the security concept at the end of 2023. As soon as the certificate for CODESYS Virtual Safe Control SL is available, Audi wants to be the first customer to integrate the virtual safety PLC into its body production line and use it in series production.
The certificate is expected to be available in December 2024. Audi and CODESYS plan to put the first virtual safety controls into operation from mid-2025.
