For the 20th time, Holz-Handwerk is inviting carpenters, joiners and wood working specialists as well as experts in furniture and interior design from all over Europe to visit Nuremberg. For J. Schmalz GmbH, the trade fair for machine technology and manufacturing equipment is an ideal platform to present its portfolio of products for the lifting and clamping of workpieces made of wood or glass to a wide range of trade professionals. This year, a key focus at the booth will be vacuum clamping technology.

The product range includes a variety of options for efficient console table, grid table, nesting table and flat table system setup. This includes solutions that enable the modernization or retrofitting of existing CNC machining centers—for example for production of single-item batches. The new vacuum block with NFC technology (Near Field Communication) is also set to be a particular highlight. Users can quickly and easily identify the clamping element via smartphone, procure spare parts and access product-specific documentation—all without an app. This is the first time ever that Schmalz has integrated digital technologies in clamping equipment for CNC machining.

Reducing back strain

When working with wood, it is just as important to consider how large and heavy sheets can be handled ergonomically and safely. One solution is the vacuum tube lifter JumboErgo with pneumatic swiveling unit PSE. This device can be used to support the loading and unloading of CNC machining centers, for example. Using the JumboErgo 110 to be exhibited in Nuremberg, users can swivel heavy workpieces weighing up to 90 kilograms by 90 degrees at the push of a button. The flat suction cup FMP is a solution for gripping sections or cut pieces where the suction cup is not fully covered by the workpiece.

The suction area made of sealing foam adapts optimally to the surface and can therefore grip even rough cut boards or profiled wooden workpieces. Check valves close uncovered suction cells and thus increase the holding force and the efficiency of the system. The new slewing angle limiter with sensors ensures optimum process reliability. Mounted on the jib, the device prevents costly collisions between the jib crane and the vacuum handling system or the CNC machining center.

Improved field of vision

Schmalz is also presenting the VacuMaster Window 200 designed for handling windows and glass sheets. The vacuum lifting device enables the workpieces to be rotated effortlessly by 90 degrees. Two suction plates with a diameter of 305 millimeters handle loads of up to 200 kilograms leaving few marks. The VacuMaster is able to move heavy objects more quickly and thus increases productivity in operation.
