Leading world trade fair for machine vision with new exhibitor record – New: VDMA Technology Days – Integration Area and Medical Discovery Tour on trend – For the first time in the high-roof hall, the L-Bank forum – Motto: One VISION
VISION turns 25 – a good reason to celebrate with all our exhibitors, partners and visitors! In the twenty five years of its existence VISION has evolved from its modest beginnings into the leading world trade fair for the machine vision industry. Its highly innovative exhibitors have experienced exciting development measures in this period, for the benefit of many supported industries. Everyone involved in any way with machine vision – from a start-up company through to an international group, from a component manufacturer through to a system integrator – takes part in this incomparable industry event.
The VISION award…
The VISION award is presented for the 20th time within the framework of VISION 2012. Another milestone! We congratulate the winner of the 20th VISION award, New Imaging Technologies from France, represented by Nicolas Baroan. The “Magic 3D – A new Wide Dynamic Range 3D stereoscopic Vision System” innovation was awarded the prize. The award ceremony takes place this evening as part of the “Get-together” at around 18.00. The VISION award is sponsored with 5,000 Euro prize money. The award is sponsored by the trade journal ” Imaging & Machine Vision”. A jury made up of five people assessed the technical quality of the submission, the technological claim, the novelty of the application and its degree of innovation, the significance for the machine vision industry and for the end user.
The Medical Discovery Tour…
Image processing plays an important role in medical technology today. Mini-cameras measuring just 1 cubic millimetre are used in endoscopy and during operations while denture impressions are now recorded digitally with the aid of machine vision cameras. Machine vision also helps in the mass production of medical devices, for example in packaging control and quality inspection. This is why the Medical Discovery Tour is taking place for the second time following its very successful début the previous year, with 38 exhibitors who have labelled their stands with the logo of the Medical Discovery Tour. With the Medical Discovery Tour visitors from medical technology who are interested in innovative machine vision applications are addressed specifically. The tour is sponsored by the trade journal DeviceMed.
The new exhibitor record…
At VISION 2012 all exhibitors are united under one roof in the L-Bank form of the high-roof Hall 1 under the motto “One VISION”.Nearly all the key players in the machine vision industry are represented and are showing their components and systems to an international audience: cameras, vision sensors, frame grabbers, software tools, illumination systems, lenses, accessories and complete systems and application solutions.
And we are able to report a new exhibitor record for the anniversary: 372 exhibitors (2011: 351) from 32 countries are taking part, the percentage of visitors coming from outside Germany has increased from 46 to a proud 49 percent. The largest foreign delegation comes from the USA with 35 exhibitors, followed by Japan (17), Great Britain (15), the Netherlands (13), Switzerland and Canada (each with 12) and France (11). Approximately 21,000 square metres of hall space, as well as a part of the foyer in front of the L-Bank forum, are occupied.
The foreign association partners…
Many international machine vision associations are represented at VISION 2012. In addition to the VDMA Machine Vision Group, which is also a conceptual and professional supporter, and the AIA, the European Machine Vision Association (EMVA), the UK Industrial Vision Association (UKIVA), the Japan Industrial Imaging Association (JIIA), the Imaging Association of India (IAI), the China Society of Image and Graphics (CSIG) and the Korea Machine Vision Industrial Association (KMVIA) are also on board and document the global significance of machine vision.
Special show “International Machine Vision Standards” …
Some of these associations, AIA, EMVA and JIIA, are working together on international machine vision standards for the benefit of the users. The special show “International Machine Vision Standards” is dedicated to high-speed interfaces, among other things. Regardless whether it is a CameraLink, CoaXPress, CameraLink HS, GigE Vision or USB 3 – every interface has its own strengths. Stand 1A23 (directly at the entrance to the L-Bank forum).
Industrial VISION Days…
During Industrial VISION Days 2012, which is also taking place in the L-Bank forum, keynote speakers from research and industry will give around 40 talks in which they will describe the latest developments and uses for a wide range of machine vision applications. Within the framework of the forum there will be nine presentations concerned with the topic of machine vision and medical technology. These can be recognised in the forum programme with the MDT log.
The programme is rounded off with two podium discussions. The “Engineering Sustainability: BLUecoMPETENCE Initiative” takes place on Thursday, 8 November 2012, from 16:30 – 17:15. According to the invitation, “machine vision increases the productivity of systems, reduces input, contributes to greater energy efficiency and makes possible the efficient recycling of reusable materials. It achieves a breakthrough in green technologies, in solar technology for example, by increasing their efficiency. Machine vision also increases the quality of life because it makes cars, food and public places safer and improves medical diagnosis.” An apt summary for a technology which actually has many “talents”.
The second podium discussion examines the topic: “Make or buy? Standardisation for machine vision Standards simplify the use of machine vision. However, is the industry strong enough to establish its own standards over the long term? Will standards from the consumer area soon provide everything that is needed?” The podium discussion will take place on 7 November from 14.00 until 15.30.
In its 25 years VISION has grown up with the industrial machine vision industry and, as a competent presentation and communication platform, has helped to promote the growth of this industry. Machine vision is now one of the important key technologies in German industry and can be encountered in nearly every industrial and non-industrial sector. Sectors such as medical technology, traffic monitoring and management, agriculture and security technology cannot now manage without machine vision.
The special show “Integration Area”…
Today the users from these totally different industries are searching more and more for complete systems for their special application. They can find these at the special show “VISION Integration Area”. The “VISION Integration Area” is taking place for the fourth time, this year directly in the entrance area of the L-Bank forum. A total of 26 exhibitors (22 in the previous year) present systems and applications. The special show is reserved solely for system integrators and solution providers and was initiated in response to the growing visitor group of end users. It is sponsored by the trade journal INSPECT.
The remaining framework programme…
The remaining offer from VISION is diverse and provides real added value for the visitors. In addition to the “Medical Discovery Tour” and the “Industrial VISION Days” for visitors who are already very familiar with VISION, there is also a special offer customised to industry newcomers. Under the motto “Knowledge modules for people hungry for knowledge”, the VISION ACADEMY will impart technological know-how on all three days of the trade fair to industry newcomers, but also to end users, system houses and mechanical engineering companies.
The “VDMA Technology Days Machine Vision” with the innovation lounge is new at VISION. Under the motto “Research meets industry” 11 research institutes from several countries present the latest findings on 3D technologies, innovative methods on lens classification, ultra-fast machine vision algorithms and other specific applications to VISION visitors and thus guarantee an insight into their areas of work. The research projects shown at this special show all have high application and market potential. An invaluable advantage for exhibitors and visitors, because at the Technology Days they can exchange information and ideas directly with representatives from research and industry and even discuss possible cooperation ventures on site. On an area of around 300 m2 the visitors have direct access to the innovations on show. Those who want to obtain more in-depth knowledge can do so in the innovation lounge. Here the exhibiting institutes are holding talks in German and English (Stand E142, East entrance/Foyer).
It is also pleasing to see that the German federal government has recognised the importance of the machine vision industry and that the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) is again sponsoring a joint stand for start-ups. This means that not only well-established machine vision companies will have a professional platform at VISION 2012, but also that young enterprises will be able to present their innovations and forge contacts during the trade fair. The ten available places are completely booked out.
For foreign start-ups, who have never taken part in VISION, there is the “International Pavilion”. The pavilion wants to make it easier for first-time exhibitors from abroad to take part in VISION.
Anyone wanting to work in this fascinating industry can find out in free career coaching in the Career Center for university graduates, young professionals and experienced engineers what occupational opportunities are available in the machine vision industry.
We are expecting over 7,000 visitors at the anniversary VISION event. And we cordially invite you to celebrate with us this evening as part of the get-together, our exhibitor evening. There’s definitely going to be a party mood!
Let’s celebrate this milestone together! This evening at the get-together and tomorrow evening at the Stemmer party!
